I acknowledge the many different approaches to psychological treatment and I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Schema Focussed Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness and other therapuetic approaches. However, there in no manual for navigating life’s difficulties.
So I utilise not just what I’ve read in books and learned in the training room but what clients have taught me about their beliefs, values and life transitions in my attempt to find the best fit for all future clients. Above all, I endeavour to support the client to feel safe, valued and heard, for I believe that is when change can occur.
People may seek treatment after experiencing traumatic life events, when they are navigating major life changes and when events are impacting negatively upon their daily lives. Treatment options are discussed following an assessment of the individual client’s needs and their preferences are prioritised. The pace of treatment will depend upon their individual ability to benefit from treatment. Each client’s needs are unique to them and the overall aim of therapy is to assist the client to understand where they are now and where they want to be in the future, in terms of the psychological and emotional health and well-being.
I am mindful of individual spiritual and cultural practices and beliefs and am happy to encorporate these in treatment. I especially enjoy working with nature and I am happy to build this into treatment sessions. Treatment sessions are offered on a face to face basis.
I am happy to undertake interventions for individuals as directed by government agencies and the court. Treatment may include strategies for reducing and managing risk in the community.
